PERSONAL
I was born September 26, 1957 and am a lifelong resident of Montgomery County. I have been married to Lynn Caudle Boynton since 1982. She is a practicing real estate attorney in Gaithersburg, Maryland, as an owner and operator of Signature Settlement Services. We have two children, Kathryn, age 19, and John, age 18. Both are attending college at Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Virginia. Katie is pursuing a degree in International Studies, and John is in the Pamplin College of Business pursuing a degree in Business.
In December, 2003, I was appointed Associate Judge of the Montgomery County Circuit Court, where since that time, I have been serving within the Family Division, Juvenile Court section. Prior to my appointment, I served as a Senior Assistant State's Attorney for Montgomery County, Maryland, since 1990. During that time, I handled the investigation and prosecution of the most serious violent crimes in our county, including rape, robbery and murder. I also served as Team Leader of the Silver Spring prosecution team, supervising fourteen other lawyers. From 1987 to 1990, I engaged in the private practice of law with the firm of Donohue, Ehrmantraut and Montedonico, a large litigation firm with offices in Maryland, Washington D.C., and Virginia. I was a trial lawyer practicing in the areas of criminal law, products liability, medical malpractice, and personal injury. From 1983 to 1987, I served as an Assistant State's Attorney for Montgomery County, Maryland, handling traffic and misdemeanor cases in the District Court, delinquency cases in the Juvenile Court, and felony cases in the Circuit Court. From 1982 to 1983, I served as a law clerk to the Honorable William M. Cave of the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland.

Honored by the Montgomery County, Maryland, Bar Foundation with the 2003 Community Service Award for the development of a Drug and Alcohol Prevention Program for high school students. Appointed to the Drug Treatment Court Commission, Training and Support Services Sub-Committee (2002 to present). Appointed by the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals of Maryland as Character Committee Member for the 6th Judicial Circuit (1989-1994, reappointed 1994-1999). Appointed as Inquiry Committee Member, Attorney Grievance Commission of Maryland (1997-2000). Graduate of National College of District Attorney's Career Prosecutor Course (1986), Investigation and Prosecution of Child Abuse Course (1996), Experienced Prosecutor's Course (2001). Graduate of National Law Enforcement Institute, Homicide Investigations Course (1985).
